A fire in Sidney, B.C. has destroyed the office building of the B.C. Yacht Insurance Brokers.
The fire started in The Blue Peter Pub & Restaurant on the waterfront in Sidney, as reported in the Vancouver Sun, and spread to destroy the insurance brokerage, which was located on the second floor of the same building. No one was hurt, the Sun reported.
The paper cites a police source as saying the building is a “total loss.”
The brokerage offers specific coverages for yachts and pleasure craft, offshore yacht insurance, commercial hulls, cargo insurance, yacht clubs and marinas and commercial operations. The coverage is underwritten by Lloyd’s of London.
The Sun cited the office manager for the brokerage saying no information was lost in the fire. The “thousands” of policies are digital and all were backed up. The brokerage is fully insured.
The Sun also reported the office continues to work remotely, with all calls being re-routed. The brokerage is reported to be investigating new Sidney storefronts, with a new office opening as early as the week of July 11-15.
