The Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR) will be hosting a workshop this month on the wildfire landscape in Canada.
Dr. Kerry Anderson, a fire research scientist from the Canadian Forest Service, will be presenting on how such wildland forest fires threaten public safety and evacuations and destroy property..
The April 12 presentation, held as part of ICLR’s ongoing Friday Forum series, will also describe the Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System and the Canadian Wildland Fire Information System.
The workshop will also look at methods for assessing the possible impact of wildland fires on communities and will demonstrate means of monitoring the current condition for predictions for the next few days to few months.
The forum will also summarize the current conditions in Canada and a forecast for the 2013 fire season.
Dr. Anderson is actively involved in research to predict smoke forecasting, fire weather and fire
behaviour, ICLR says. Through this research, he has and continues to develop models to assist fire management agencies in daily operational planning by predicting the potential impact of fires on the landscape.
The forum will be held April 12 at ICLR’s Toronto office (20 Richmond Street East, Suite 210) from 10:00 am to 11:30 am.
