GPL Assurance Inc. announced Wednesday it has acquired the Quebec business of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Canada, making it JLT’s exclusive broker in Quebec and a member of The JLT International Network.

“This transaction cements GPL’s position as a growing force in the Quebec general insurance and risk management solutions market,” Louis-Thomas Labbé, GPL’s president and CEO said in a press release.

“It is a win for our clients on all levels. It brings even greater depth to GPL’s services in Quebec and enables us to leverage our membership in one of the largest networks in the international insurance sector. It will provide us with an expanded presence and expertise in construction and infrastructure, energy, professional services, and aerospace and aviation, and allows us to support our clients wherever they do business around the globe.”

GPL added that the deal will bolster its expertise in the construction and infrastructure sector. JLT has been involved in many major construction projects globally, including power stations, infrastructure projects and commercial real estate. As a member of the international network, GPL and its clients will have access to expertise on international projects, according to its statement.

“This transaction makes enormous sense for our clients and for JLT,” David Richards, CEO of JLT Canada said in the release Wednesday.  “GPL has been operating for more than four decades and they truly know and understand the unique Quebec market place.  Our clients will be well served by a firm with a strong market presence in Quebec and they will still have full access to The JLT International Network.”

The transaction will close on April 30.
