The Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC) has contacted the RCMP to investigate a conference marketed towards Canadian insurance professionals.
An organization naming itself ‘The Canadian Insurance Brokers & Risk Managers’ has recently distributed an advertisement announcing a conference that is purported to be taking place at the Toronto Congress Centre from Nov. 9-11, 2009, an IBAC release says.
In addition, the organization is advertising that the Prime Minister of Canada will be giving a keynote address at the conference. The advertisement encourages people to send money to register for the event.
These advertisements have been circulating via the Internet and by email, IBAC warns.
“This conference does not exist, this organization does not exist, and the Prime Ministers Office has informed us that this address will not take place,” IBAC indicated in a statement to the media.
IBAC says it has informed the RCMP, the Toronto Police Services and the Prime Ministers Office about the advertisements.
Canadian Underwriter tried to contact the conference organizers listed on the advertisement and did not receive a response.
