With the Calgary Stampede starting this past weekend, the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC) has signed an agreement with an Alberta-based repair shop network to handle potential claims from car accidents involving B.C. drivers.

The public auto insurer notes that more than 3,000 crashes involving B.C. vehicles happen in Alberta each year. The Stampede is a popular tourist attraction for many of the province’s drivers who may face heavy traffic, unfamiliar road patterns and distractions, ICBC notes.

“ICBC and Fix Auto will help ease the frustrations for drivers involved in a crash in Alberta by taking care of their immediate needs,” said Kevin Falcon, B.C.’s minister of finance and deputy premier.

The partnership covers all drivers with ICBC optional insurance coverage while travelling in Alberta from Edmonton south to the U.S. border. Customers involved in a crash or any type of vehicle claim situation can go to one of several Fix Auto locations when they call ICBC’s Dial-a-Claim. ICBC will connect them directly to Fix Auto, which will arrange towing, repair and rental vehicle services.

“We’re pleased to be partnering with ICBC to help customers who have been involved in an accident in Alberta,” said Steve Leal, chief operating officer of Fix Auto Canada.

ICBC has a similar partnership with Kirmac Collision to provide vehicle repair services for customers who have a claim while travelling the I-5 Corridor in Washington State through to Portland, Oregon.
