June saw the highest amount of rainfall in a decade in the Toronto region, according to Environment Canada.
The monthly total for rainfall in June 2010 was 191.6 millimetres, breaking the prior record of 169.2 millimetres established in 2000. Wiarton and Kingston, Ontario also set new records during the month for total precipitation.
The month also brought violent thunderstorms and tornadoes, Environment Canada said in a special report.
On June 5, a Fujita Scale One tornado (with peak winds between 120 and 170 km-h) struck the communities of Dalkeith and Ste-Anne-de-Prescott.
The next day, a Fujita Scale Two tornado (with peak winds between 180 and 240 km-h) moved over Essex County, leaving a 40 kilometre trail of damage in its wake.
The third and fourth tornadoes of the season struck on June 23 in the Midland and Washago areas. The twisters were F2 and F1, respectively and left 25-kilometre-long and 10-kilometre-long trails of damage.
Finally, two separate microbursts caused damage to crops, barns and trees, once again in Essex County on June 23 and June 27.
