Just 45% of motorists involved in careless parking collisions in the United Kingdom indicated they would leave their insurance details — even then, only if the damage was more serious than just a fender-bender.
In fact, one in six car drivers would never leave behind that information, notes a statement from eQuoteDirect, which specializes in car insurance and motor trade insurance.
Identifying the responsible party is difficult without these details. Damage often occurs in busy, built-up areas with limited parking. In most instances, the driver is not even in the vehicle.
The study’s authors say these types of incidents contribute to £1.3 million worth of damage (Cdn$1.71 million). Victims, on average, end up paying out £1,800 (Cdn$2,362) in repair costs.
