Saskatchewan authorities ticketed just over 700 motorists last month during March’s traffic safety focus on seatbelt and car seat use in the province.

Police were on the lookout for people not wearing a seatbelt, wearing one improperly or not having their children properly restrained in the vehicle, according to Saskatchewan Government Insurance, which helps lead the safety campaign.

In total, law enforcement issued:

  • 646 tickets for driver failing to wear a seatbelt
  • 43 tickets for passenger failing to wear a seatbelt
  • 16 tickets for driver/passenger under 16 failing to wear a seatbelt

SGI is also reminding drivers that mandatory booster seats for children under the age of seven will take effect June 27.
