REGINA – A Regina woman whose husband was killed in a car crash will get compensation from Saskatchewan Government Insurance after all.

Rosmarie Boxall was initially told she wouldn’t receive any money because a drunk-driving charge against the man responsible for the collision was stayed.

Donna Harpauer, minister responsible for SGI, says the insurer has decided to make an exception and pay Boxall.

Jordan Thomas Lee McNabb did plead guilty to four other charges, including criminal negligence causing death, although court heard McNabb was drunk when he hit John Boxall’s vehicle in February 2013.

Harpauer says his widow will get $60,000 and each of her three stepdaughters will get $30,000 – the amount allowed under the Fatal Accidents Act had McNabb been convicted of impaired driving.

The minister also says legislation will be reviewed to see if changes need to be made in cases where more serious charges than impaired driving are laid.
