The Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR) will feature Western University’s Dr. Slobodan Simonovic during its Oct. 12 Friday Forum event on climate change related disasters.

The forum will focus on changing climate hazard patterns, as urban environments are faced with pressures of rapid urbanization, population growth and exposure to natural disasters.

Simonovic will discuss the development of a unique integrated dynamic resilience measure that combines economic, social, health and physical impacts of a disaster using a system dynamics coupled with GIS spatial modeling.

The objective is to develop a generic “City Model” that can be used for the evaluation of climate change adaptation and policy, which can be refined for local applications across the globe.

The study’s results will provide for better emergency management planning and policy development.

Simonovic is a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Western University in London, Ont. He is also the director of engineering studies at ICLR.

The event will be held at 20 Richmond St. West, Suite 200, in downtown Toronto on Oct. 12 (10:00 am to 11:30 am).  The event will also be viewable live via WebEx webcast for those unable to attend in person.

Member companies can send two participants at no cost. A fee of $75 will apply for additional attendees. The cost for non-members is $150 per person for each forum. There is no cost to view the webcast of the event.

RSVP: Tracy Waddington (twaddington@iclr.org)
