The William H. McGannon Foundation has awarded Jean-Francois Haeck with the John Faulds Memorial Award.
The John Faulds Memorial Award includes a Cdn$5,000 scholarship. It is not given on an annual basis, but only to worthy students studying risk management at the post-graduate level.
Haeck is currently pursuing a Masters of Science in Management and Regulation of Risk degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science in the United Kingdom.
He holds an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University in his hometown of Montreal, Quebec.
While working for the consulting firm Deloitte, Haeck noticed that business projects have not historically included fully developed risk management plans. As a result, “I chose to study risk management in London to learn the world-leading best risk management practices, which I plan on applying when I return to Canada.”
He says he is humbled to be awarded the John Faulds Memorial Award. “The Risk and Insurance Management Society makes clear that more risk management professionals are required and I feel responsible for contributing to the profession’s success in Canada.”

With the 2010 Winter Games around the corner, Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) is reminding BC homeowners planning on renting out or lending their homes to visitors to ensure they have adequate insurance coverage.
“Renting out your home or apartment to visitors could affect your insurance coverage,” said Lindsay Olson, IBC’s vice-president of British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. “Consumers shouldn’t assume they have coverage for damage done by occupants simply because they have home insurance.”
Olson encourages consumers to contact their insurance representatives and be clear about their intentions. “In some cases your existing coverage may be adequate. In other cases, you may have the option to purchase additional coverage.”
